What is Hope for the Cause?

Hope for the Cause (HFTC) began back in 2008, with a small group of pioneering Mirabel women whose singular goal was supporting the innovative cancer research being done by HonorHealth Research Institute. Today, almost sixteen years later, our dedicated team of Mirabel Members, both men and women, have raised nearly $5 million for that same cause.

By supporting Mirabel Club's Hope for the Cause, now a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization (Federal Tax ID # 92-2740203), you will help fund cutting edge research in the cure for cancer at one of the country’s most respected cancer research institutes. We are excited that you have landed here and hope you will join us in making a difference for cancer patients of today and tomorrow.

History

In 2009, a group of Mirabel women golfers had the good and noble idea to host a ladies’ golf outing in support of cancer research. Several of the organizers had either been directly impacted by cancer or had friends and family members who had been.  The HonorHealth Research Institute (then Scottsdale HealthCare Research Institute) was chosen as the beneficiary.  The golf outing was well attended and raised $25,000 for cancer research.

With such initial success, the organizers branded their efforts as Hope for the Cause (HFTC) and the golf event became an annual fundraising campaign. A men’s golf outing was later added, along with an evening dinner, replete with both silent and live auctions. The Mirabel culture of giving was now established.

Over the years, new ideas were tried in order to bring more members into the campaign. A bridge tournament, a run/walk marathon and a tennis match all contributed to fundraising efforts.

As membership grew, so did the funds raised, growing annually for ten years, before leveling out at roughly one half million dollars a year. After ten years, Mirabelians had generously contributed $2.5 million dollars to the HonorHealth Research Institute. Through 2023 Mirabel’s Hope for the Cause has raised more than $5 million dollars. If we continue to raise funds at current levels through 2029, bringing us to the 20-year mark, our annual contribution levels will more than double the annual contributions of our first ten years.

Each year of HFTC brings a new theme and fresh ideas. We had Ride for the Cure, Superpowers fighting cancer villains and Hope Grows Here. Changing leadership and committee participation ushers in evolutionary changes to this annual campaign of giving. But what never changes is our commitment to supporting HFTC.

After all….This is what we do. This is who we are.
